"Thats none of your business."

I have been looking for a new job as of late. And I found an incredibly misleading ad on Craigslist that seemed too good to be true. It was for an apprenticeship at a rapidly expanding business? That payed $500 a week. I called, learned it was called Fox Valley Distributing, and set up an interview. And set about trying to find information about online. And found nearly nothing other that it was linked in directories to vacuum cleaners.

Would I join the ranks of those who sell Kirby vacuums door to door? Desperately trying to give my sales pitch, in front of people who just wanted me to demonstrate their floors being cleaned for free?

I went in for the interview in a depressing office building that smelled faintly of cigarettes. There three middle aged men in the foyer were filling out tedious looking booklets. I signed in and explained that on some days I wouldn't have a car all day. I was then told that all the positions required continuous use of a car. After I was told to leave, I asked what they did there to which the receptionist replied thats none of your business.

Does anyone know what they do? It seems like a scam, maybe they count on your relatives buying vacuums.

I found out that the booklets the people were filling were probably IQ tests. What kind of sane job makes you take an IQ test?

none, you would think. what kind of sane business hires a receptionist who doesn't give out information?
apparently, that's a job for the insane.

I interviewed with that company in December of 2007. They only pay you the $500 a week if you do a certain number of demos. If you don't, then you only get commission based on your sales. And the way things are scheduled you'll pretty much be working 6-7 days a week. They don't reimburse you for gas, either. They try to make it seem like this is then kind of job where if you stick with it for a couple of years you'll be making a six figure salary. So yeah, its a thinly veiled get rich quick scheme.

Same thing happened too me. I got the interview. They talk it up, make you feel important, but don't explain anything. Get a call later, you made it! and i declined, and said maybe I will do orientation next week, then proceeded too ask the desk clerk about pay, gas compensation, am I just a door too door salesman? she replies, that's not all you do, they will explain the rest in orientation. I said well i want too know before i commit too something, the interview was very vague. Then she says, so are you declining? in a pissy voice, and i was like i guess ill show up. That is today, found this, now I am not going.

For such a "succesful buisness" that the guy told me he was in for 16 years, its a little craphole, thats only been open since 2004.

So its nothing but a SCAM!

This hard sell technique developed by Kirby eons ago is still in place. These losers are just that, a bunch of cons peddling the most expensive vacuum out there. I'm a professional detailer for auto and aircraft and they can't hold a candle to me. Best thing to do is look somewhere else..

Yep. That's a Kirby outfit. They call us constantly trying to setup appointments for their guys to come out. It's insane.

Don't get me wrong, I think Kirby themselves make a great product. They're expensive, but they do a good job and are durable.

But this distributorship's tactics are nothing short of Nazi-like. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a record with the BBB (Better Business Bureau).

Yep everyone's got it right. I interviewed for a call center job there a couple of years ago (they called themselves Fox Valley Dist.). Interview went well. Decided to forego the "tryout" as I had something else and THEN I hear the rumors. Little old ladies buying thousand dollar vacuumes because the sales person wouldn't leave, working there is a constant battle to get a decent pay check and not get fired. Horrible things. This year I had an interview set up for "Rumke Enterprises" for a sales rep position. Guess where I ended up! I walked in, saw people filling out papers (just and aptitude test attached to a script) walked up to the receptionist and asked "am I wrong or is this the vaccume place?" (big smile) "Oh yes it is." (disapproving glare) "Yeah, not interested, thanks bye." Crooked, crooked business I'll never buy a kirby.
